Trenčín has the best Chronicle of all Regional Cities

(25.03.2013, Mesto Trenčín)

It was Thursday, March 21, when the results of the 7th annual competition, called Slovak Chronicle of 2012, were announced in the Slovak National Museum in Martin.  Trenčín was awarded one first and one second prize.

First place in the category of regional city chronicles went to the Chronicle of Trenčín and its author Jozef Čery .  The jury awarded him first prize for making an entry for 2011, including the accompanying photographic and audio-visual documentation, own personal collection of press clippings, and invitations to events.

In the category of cultural information material, the jury was impressed by a  concertina book called  Treasures of Trenčín - Monuments in Writing  by Viera Bernáthová.  City of Trenčín published it in cooperation with the State Archives office in Trenčín in 2012 to mark the six hundredth anniversary of granting royal privileges to the City.

The book describes the most significant historical development milestones in the lives of the people of Trenčín. The document depicts events since the most ancient Roman inscription on the castle rock, through Zoborská Deed dating back to the year 1111, pictorial chronicle of the 14th century, to the Charter of King Sigismund of Luxembourg, elevating Trenčín to a free Royal City.

With the series called Treasures of Trenčín, which successfully launched publications about written monuments, City wants to continue publishing other concertina books that will gradually introduce other treasures of Trenčín.

215 materials were submitted for the 7th annual nationwide competition in the categories of the best chronicle, memoir village and city, publication of cultural heritage, cultural, tourism and information material, collection of folk literature, proverbs, sayings, legends and folk tales, folklore song lyrics, and dialect dictionary.  National Centre for Promotion, contributory organisation of the Ministry of Culture, is the main organizer and sponsor of the competition.
