Trenčín looked to as Management Model for Slovakia

(04.03.2013, Mesto Trenčín)

Of 39.7 million Euro, the initial debt the City inherited, 23.6 million remain outstanding as of the end of 2012. Debt per capita fell from 714 Euro to current 426 Euro.

Mayor Richard Rybníček presented a Municipal Management Report to the Council at its ordinary session held February 21.

The Council alongside with the City management have made one of the biggest public finance reforms in Slovakia in that they have been able to cut the municipal debt by more than 40 percent over the last two years - something no one in this country has ever been able to achieve.   These results are unquestionable. "And it's not about postponing the debt! We are paying off all that we should, and do it in time", said the Mayor.

In discussing the management practices, Ján Babič, and independent Council member, said: "Now we talk about how we are successful in eliminating debts. But to date we have no one who caused those debts."

In response to his question, the Mayor promised to inform the members at the next City Council session about the progress of an ongoing investigation of two criminal complaints filed by the City.
